NIK has checked how schools prevent drug addiction among their pupils and students. It turns out that even the principals of schools with higher risk of drug addiction did not take more decisive actions. In many places the fear of damaging the school’s reputation or underestimating the problem prevent effective fight with drugs.
Marek Bieńkowski on the drug issue in schools
NIK suggests that schools should start by diagnosing real threats in their area. If some of them are drugs or legal highs, this problem should be faced with courage. ”Ready and professional prevention programmes are available and waiting to be used. We’ve stressed it in our report” - explains Bieńkowski. And he adds: ”Talks during form periods won’t be of any help - these times are already gone.”
