Air pollution do not respect any borders. It has a negative impact on the quality and life expectancy of people living across Europe and, at the same time, is also an important factor affecting the economies of individual countries. In order to better address the real risks to human and the environment caused by air pollution, 15 national SAIs (from: Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Israel, Kosovo, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands) and the European Court of Auditors joined forces in performing a joint audit of air quality in the European Union (EU) and a number of countries outside the EU. Both these 15 national SAIs and the ECA cooperated in the framework of the EUROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA). This largest cooperation under WGEA, coordinated by Dutch and Polish SAIs, has resulted in the preparation of a report on this topic.
If you want to find out, among others, what are the sources of air pollution in different countries and how national authorities in several states of our continent cope with this problem, please familiarize yourself with Joint report on air quality.
