Meeting of the Steering Committee for the GSAI Kyrgyzstan Project

Delegation of the Supreme Audit Office of Poland led by NIK President Marian Banaś participated in the second meeting of the Steering Committee for the GSAI Kyrgyzstan Project. The meeting held on 21 November 2024 was the key phase of the project implementation aiming to develop national audit systems, transparency and accountability in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The project being part of a trilateral agreement aims to develop national audit systems, transparency and accountability. The Steering Committee which meets twice a year is the key platform for making strategic decisions and coordinating efforts between partners. Cooperation plays vital role in strengthening professional capacity of Kyrgyz auditors and implementing the world’s best practices.

The event, under the auspices of the President of the Accounts Chamber of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Akmatov, was attended by the President and the Vice-President of NIK, members of the management board of the Kyrgyz SAI, as well as auditors and other employees involved in the project implementation. The INTOSAI Development Initiative Team (IDI) and NIK auditors responsible for individual project components, joined the meeting online.

Almazbek Akmatov, Head of the Kyrgyz SAI thanked the NIK experts for fruitful cooperation this year. He underlined that almost all activities scheduled for 2024 had been accomplished.  

During the meeting additional initiatives were announced which aimed at successful completion of the project objectives in 2025. Some of them were:

  • preparation and approval of methodological manuals and working forms for different types of audits, including performance, compliance and financial audits;
  • organisation of an additional mission of Polish experts in January 2025 to provide methodological support for pilot audits;
  • organisation of a training programme for employees of the Kyrgryz SAI in the second quarter of 2025 on using updated methodological manuals and working forms.

NIK President Marian Banaś emphasised the great potential of cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic. Joint efforts in the field of public sector auditing contribute not only to developing professional competences but also to strengthening citizens' trust in state institutions. They also lay foundations for joint projects in the future.

The next meeting of the Steering Committee is scheduled for April 2025. The results will be summarised and new objectives will be set then.
