The NIK delegation took part in a meeting of the Cooperation Network of the EU Contact Committee on Fiscal Policy Audit. The event was held in Rome on 2-3 October 2024.
Representatives of 19 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs), including NIK, gathered at the headquarters of the Italian Corte dei conti. Some of the participants joined remotely.

The Cooperation Network of the Contact Committee on fiscal policy audit was established in 2008 at the initiative of the SAIs of Finland and Sweden. Its main goal was to improve methodologies and practices in the field of national fiscal policy and economic governance in the EU. The network promotes parallel and joint fiscal policy audits among its members.

The two-day meeting was opened by its host, Head of the Italian SAI Guido Carlino, who underlined the key role of Supreme Audit Institutions in overseeing sustainable development and implementation of fiscal policies. The network is chaired by the SAI of Finland. Its representative, Director Matti Okko said he was satisfied with dynamic development of the network and constantly increasing number of its members.
The main topic of the meeting was the impact of the new European economic governance framework on the national accounting systems.

The meeting was divided into three thematic sessions, during which the participants presented ongoing fiscal policy audits. The Chief Accountant of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, Daria Perrotta, discussed the vision of the EU future, with particular focus on social, fiscal and economic aspects, investments and debt.
The meeting ended with a round table debate on the future of the network. The participants agreed on the current cooperation formula. It was agreed that the topics of future meetings should be diversified and reflect ongoing work of the participating SAIs.
Vice-President of NIK Michał Jędrzejczyk put forward the candidacy of NIK to host the following meeting. In a letter to NIK President Marian Banaś, Auditor General of the SAI of Finland Sami Yläoutinen, thanked NIK for its initiative and accepted the candidacy.
The next meeting of the EU CC Network on Fiscal Policy will take place in Warsaw, in autumn 2025. That will be an opportunity for NIK representatives to expand on the way they view fiscal rules and the national deficit financing limitations in the context of growing defence spending and the energy transformation in Poland.
