The cooperation between the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Audit Office of Poland dates back to 1990s. In 2001, it was concluded with a memorandum on cooperation between the two SAIs. In the document, both the Russian SAI and the NIK identified the most important areas of cooperation, such as, for instance, experience sharing in the field of public finance auditing, conducting joint audits and exchanging of reporting documents. Auditors of the two SAIs have many times participated in joint audit initiatives. These include the audit of border checkpoints services and the European climate audit.

During the visit to Warsaw, the Heads of the two institutions discussed the matters related to their collaboration, both bilateral and that within INTOSAI and EUROSAI. The Russian Federation and Poland alike actively participate in the works of the two organisations. At the end of March, the Heads of the two SAIs will be the speakers at the 3rd EUROSAI - ARABOSAI conference, where they will present information on efficiency indicators of SAIs and the benefits that their countries have from effective activities of their audit bodies. Also in March, representatives of the two SAIs will participate in the meeting of the EUROSAI Task Force on the Audit of Funds Allocated to Disasters and Catastrophes, organised in Moscow.
During his visit to Poland, Chairman Sergey V. Stepashin gave a lecture in the National School of Public Administration (KSAP) on the socio-economic situation in Russia from the perspective of the Accounts Chamber. He also visited Kraków where, together with President of the NIK Jacek Jezierski, he laid a wreath at the tomb of President Lech Kaczyński and his wife.
