The debate participants included among others the former Vice-Minister of Industry and Trade representing the National Chamber of Commerce and a representative of the Climate Coalition.
The EU has offered its help to its member states in implementing the climate and energy policy. According to the supporters of the renewable energy sources, the climate and energy package is a great opportunity for Europe and Poland. Even more so because most of the other EU countries have already gone green. And they provide the following arguments to support alternative energy sources:
- improvement of Poland’s power safety,
- development of new technologies (meaning new jobs),
- healthier society and hence improved effectiveness of work.
Arguments against renewable energy sources quoted during the panel included:
- dependence on changeable weather which may end in frequent blackouts,
- much higher prices as compared with traditional energy sources (e.g. about 2.5 times higher than the price of brown coal) which may result in a job crisis in energy-consuming industries in the coming years and finally a growing budget deficit.
