Collaboration between EUROSAI and ARABOSAI

The third EUROSAI - ARABOSAI ConferenceOfficial collaboration between RUEOSAI and ARABOSAI commenced in 2005. The first bilateral conference of the two organisations took place in 2006, which was followed by the second conference in 2009. Then, representatives of the two regions debated on privatisation and its impact on public services management, as well as on the role of SAIs in the process of the state modernisation.

The third EUROSAI - ARABOSAI Conference was dedicated to fight against corruption, transparency and accountability. Jacek Jezierski, Chair of EUROSAI Governing Board and President of the NIK, in his welcome speech emphasised the role of Supreme Audit Institutions as guardians of public money, especially at a time of economic crisis. President Jezierski also stressed that SAIs must operate in a transparent manner to effectively fight corruption.

Jacek Jezierski, Chair of EUROSAI Governing Board and President of the NIKDuring three thematic sessions of the Conference, the Heads of the SAIs of France, Iraq, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Russian Federation, Spain, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia presented the experience of their institutions. They discussed the practical implementation of International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI) on transparency and accountability. They also touched upon issues related to measuring the performance of SAIs and to innovative solutions in corruption combating. Each thematic session was planned so that the Heads of both European and Arab SAIs could share their experience, which allowed for comparing practices and problems existing in the two regions.
