The Agreement has commenced a synergy process in the European field of the public finance sector auditing, which means that the effects of joint activities of audit bodies will be better than those obtained if they worked separately.
The Agreement is a result of works and negotiations that started already in 2009. After a series of meetings, representatives of EUROSAI and ECIIA have identified areas of collaboration, and set common objectives and framework initiatives in the field of internal auditing of the public sector. The Agreement between EUROSAI and ECIIA defines clear objectives and areas of interest within internal and external auditing of the public finance sector.
The two parties intend to create good conditions for dialogue and experience exchange between Supreme Audit Institutions and internal auditors, so that to make them as fast and effective as possible. EUROSAI and ECIIA wish to share their experience in the implementation of practices and standards in public sector auditing. The two organisations will be now able to benefit from mutual consultations and common stances on the most important matters.
EUROSAI and ECIIA wish to meet the objectives they have set thanks to, among others, sharing professional publications, tools and other resources in the area of public sector internal auditing. The two organisations will share information on their own initiatives in the field. They also plan to organise joint seminars, training initiatives, research and publications.
The Agreement signed in Rome has become part of global cooperation schemes of Supreme Audit Institutions, commenced already in 2007 when the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), whose regional group is EUROSAI, concluded the first agreement of the kind with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
