The III meeting of the EUROSAI Working Group on the Audit of Funds Allocated to Disasters and Catastrophes was preceded by a seminar on possible performance audits related to prevention and elimination of disasters and their consequences. The invited Indonesian experts shared their experience related to this subject matter. Members of the Ukrainian SAI, which chairs the activities of the Working Group, presented issues in this area with regard to INTOSAI standards.

The meeting in Rome was an opportunity to review activities of the group so far and to define its strategy for the upcoming years. Individual members discussed their achievements and findings. The Supreme Audit Office of Poland, together with the State Control Committee of Belarus and the Accounting Office of Ukraine, presented a report on the international protection of the Bug river catchment area. Participants of the joint audit officially signed the document in Rome.
One of the meeting sessions was dedicated to best practices in the audit of funds aimed at preventing and eliminating consequences of disasters with regard to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030. Italian colleagues presented the new audit approach and the ECA representatives discussed a possible joint coordinated reaction in case of a catastrophe outside the EU.
Various bilateral meetings also took place at the Rome conference. NIK President met among others with the President of the Italian Court of Audit. Representatives of the Supreme Audit Office debated with the delegation of the Ukrainian Accounting Office, which chairs the activities of the Working Group. The Ukrainian SAI prepared the draft joint position on cooperation related to international audits. It is essential to act together, because in case of disasters and catastrophes, which occur worldwide, irrespective of any borders, only such initiatives may be effective.
