Mission: improve the country

The performance audit is a modern auditing method which makes it possible to verify what results were achieved for public money. ”This approach goes a step further as compared with a typical financial audit” - explains Jolanta Stawska, Director of the NIK Branch in Cracow. At the request of auditors from the State Supreme Audit Institution in Albania the Polish Supreme Audit Office prepared a training seminar dedicated to that subject.

”I am very positively surprised about the role NIK fulfils in the Polish conditions” - Julian Adili, the auditor from Albania shares his impressions with us. And he explains that he likes the vision of an audit institution that plays the role of social advocate - it exercises pressure on the government administration and other public institutions to spend money not only in line with the law but also in a way noticeably improving the citizens’ living standards.

”Our country aspires to the EU” - says Director Ded Trieshi, leader of the Albanian delegation - ”We want our institution to implement the EU audit standards now”. The seminar in Poland, which we appreciate very much, is a part of a broader project for developing qualifications of our staff.

”This is also a very valuable experience for us” - says Director Stawska, responsible for the content-related part of the training. Thanks to the matter-of-fact questions of our Albanian colleagues we could view our work from a different perspective. We were inspired to make specific considerations of the methodology used by NIK and the results we achieve in that matter.
