The Senate and the Supreme Audit Office want to cooperate closely. On a current basis, NIK identifies irregularities in the functioning of the state and makes proposals of the law changes. The Senate may use them and take legislative initiatives in order to improve effective regulations.
An examples? The audit of the use of telecommunications data by special services showed that the privacy of Poles is not protected enough. The Senate Committee for Human Rights, Rule of Law and Petitions is already working on draft amendments to some acts. They should tighten up the system of acquiring, processing and destroying citizens’ data.
That form of cooperation was discussed by the Senate Management with the top management of the Supreme Audit Office during the meeting on 20 March 2014. Both institutions are also working together on amending the animal protection act. This cooperation will strengthen the position of the Senate and will enable improvements in the law to meet the citizens’ expectations - said the Senate Marshall Bogdan Borusewicz.
President Kwiatkowski declared his support for the Senate initiatives in full scope. The more so because subsequent acts require improvements - e.g. waste management act. ”Even if the scope of changes is smaller than requested by NIK, we will understand that. Each initiative needs a broader perspective. The viewpoint of all parties interested in a given regulation needs to be taken into account” - said the Head of the Supreme Audit Office.
