NIK becomes the auditor of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research

The Polish Supreme Audit Office was appointed external auditor of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN). NIK will perform this function from the year 2013 to 2015.

This is a distinction for the Polish Supreme Audit Office and also the first time when the function of external auditor is awarded to the SAI of a "new" member state (that joined CERN after 1989).

NIK & CERN

CERN was established in 1954. Its headquarters are located in Geneva. Currently, the organisation associates 20 countries. Its budget exceeds CHF 1 billion. Approx. 3 thousand scholars and technologists work there on a regular basis but the number of people cooperating with CERN reaches 8 thousand. The recent grand undertaking of the organisation was activation of the particle accelerator, called the Large Hadron Collider.
