NIK cooperates with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine

The partnership and cooperation declaration in this area was signed in February in the Polish Parliament. Poles have invited auditors from Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to a series of meetings and seminars on current auditing standards. NIK’s experience in that matter dates back to the transformation period. Now the Polish SAI wants to share this experience with the candidate countries on their way to the European Union.

Polish auditors together with representatives of the European Court of Auditors are going to give presentations on the settlement and audit of the EU funds. But not only: the seminar programme has been based on consultations attended by the heads of Supreme Audit Institutions of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. They have also highlighted two critical issues: the fight against corruption and the functioning of local governments.

The quality of state audit is a vital element of democracy. Efficient work of public administration, underpinned by transparency, accountability and fight against corruption, has a direct impact on the wellbeing of citizens. In the European Union this approach is a standard. It has to be complied with by each country which wants to meet EU standards.
