NIK is starting an audit on shale gas extraction

NIK wants to have a closer look at the works aimed at determining the amount of shale gas resources and the plans of its utilisation. The Supreme Audit Office will verify the manner in which relevant entities fulfil their obligations arising from the licence and check how the public authority bodies exercise supervision and control in the areas related to the search and extraction of shale gas.

The audit will start with the expert panel. The auditors will listen to the opinions of experts among others from the Ministry of Environment, Polish Geological Institute, State Mining Authority, National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management, Institute of Geological Sciences at the Polish Academy of Sciences, Polish Oil & Gas Company. The expert will also be asked to express their opinions after the audit.

NIK will present the audit results to the Sejm and the public opinion in spring 2013.
