NIK work plan for 2011 - some data:
• 98 audits of the state budget execution in 2010
• 98 audits of the state budget execution in 2011 - to be commenced at the end of the year
• 85 audits on the NIK’s initiative
• 13 audits commenced in 2010
Priority audit directions, set every three years, define the main areas of the NIK’s interest. In accordance with these directions, until the end of 2011, the NIK will be verifying whether the State is efficient and friendly to its citizens, whether the State effectively manages public resources and what the presence of Poland in the European Union is like.
In 2011, NIK auditors will examine, among other things, the security of the financial sector, the activity of tax offices and fiscal control offices with regard to tax frauds, and the implementation of e-administration projects. NIK auditors will also scrutinise how the rights of patients in psychiatric hospitals are observed, the effectiveness of assistance for victims of the flood of 2010 and the medical rescue system. The NIK will also audit the preparedness of Poland for the organisation of the 2012 EURO Football Championship.
As many as 56 audits are coordinated audits which involve participation of more than one NIK unit. These are frequently huge undertakings, in which the majority of NIK regional branches and several departments take part. For instance, in January the audit of the execution of the state budget in 2011 begins, in which all NIK audit departments are engaged.
The NIK’s work plan also comprises 13 audits that commenced already in 2010 but are to be completed in 2011. These comprise, for example, the audit of the use of public funds designated for assistance to students and the audit of the programme for preventing overweight and obesity amongst children and teenagers.
