NIK shares its experience with the SAI of  Slovenia

It was the second visit of the President of the Slovenian SAI to the NIK. The first visit took place in 2006 and it was dedicated to auditing of the state budget execution and to performance and environmental audits. The President of the SAI of Slovenia was also interested in the organisational structure of the NIK and the legal basis for its functioning.

This year’s visit concentrated on two issues: the findings of the audit on the implementation of the Helsinki Convention and the communication policy of the Regional Branches of the NIK.

Representatives of the NIK Department of Environment, Agriculture & Construction Infrastructure presented the findings on the audit that examined how several countries proceeded with the implementation of the Helsinki Convention provisions. They explained the reasons for carrying out the audit, its scope and objectives. They also presented the details of the Polish part of this international audit.

The role of regional press officers and the specifics of their work were discussed by the press officer from the NIK Regional Branch in Gdańsk. He introduced the communication strategy of the NIK and explained why it is worth presenting audit findings in the media. The main reasons to do so include the society’s right to be informed and the preventive role of irregularities disclosed in auditing.
