Over 12 thousand members from 145 countries have already joined the UN Secretary General’s Initiative. The work of the UN Global Compact is related to compliance with human rights, work standards, environment protection and corruption prevention. The Initiative will also be supported by NIK that will cooperate with the organisation mainly in its fight against grey economy. Already in March, the heads of both institutions Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and Kamil Wyszkowski talked about how to best use the organisations’ potential.
The UN Global Compact is interested in NIK’s audit findings. It also wants wants to involve NIK in the discussion on transport corridors. Poland, due to its location, is crucial for the European transport. A question arises at the same time if the use of Polish rivers can be improved. ”Our auditors will eagerly share information on inland shipping and barriers related to that one of the most environment-friendly means of transport” - said NIK President.
On 19 June, NIK representatives took part in a meeting of the Programme Council of the Global Compact Network Poland. This is a high-level event which is attended by world-class experts, heads of private companies, enterprises and organisations as well as representatives of the general government sector (both in Poland and in the EU). During the meeting Krzysztof Kwiatkowski talked about negative impact of the grey market.
Kamil Wyszkowski has noted that both organisations share the idea of counteracting and fighting corruption. ”The tenth principle of the UN Secretary General's Initiative, along with nine others adopted by the General Assembly, refers to work against corruption. That’s why we want to cooperate with the Supreme Audit Office very closely in this matter” - underlines the Polish representative of the UN Global Compact.
