The Supreme Audit Institutions regularly communicate with external entities, such as public institutions, universities, social organisations and the public (via the media). For the audit results to achieve the desired effect they have to be known to all the interested parties. The information overload makes it extremely difficult to reach relevant addressees nowadays. That is why, SAIs pay great attention to their information activities. Properly developed and communicated information is the key for a SAI to be effective.
The Hungarian SAI Head also presented a very interesting project for the promotion of integrity in the public sector in Hungary. It boils down to raising awareness of public institutions in terms of ethical standards, encourages them to make self-assessment in this area, present its results to the public and create a map of corruption risks.
NIK and the State Audit Office of Hungary have cooperated for many years now. In 2002, both institutions signed the bilateral cooperation agreement. The Presidents of both SAIs take part in annual meetings of SAI Heads of Visegrad Group states, Austria and Slovenia. Since 2004 when Poland and Hungary joined the European Union, a new cooperation platform has been established: the Contact Committee including SAI Heads from the EU member states and the European Court of Auditors. They meet once a year to discuss issues important for the state audit in the EU countries. Both SAIs are also active EUROSAI and INTOSAI members.
