The office of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) in Skopje was established in 2008 and is the first WFD office to open outside the UK. Since its inception, the office has cooperated with institutions, parliamentarians, civil society, political parties and journalists to develop democracy, participation and effective public policies. The Foundation's "Democracy Works" programme aims to increase transparency and accountability in public sector institutions. The SAI of North Macedonia is the key partner of the programme and is working to improve its communication practices as well as its cooperation with the Public Prosecutor's Office and other stakeholders.

Appreciating the role and position of NIK in the international arena, the Foundation suggested arranging a study visit aimed at enabling bilateral exchange of communication practices with NIK, with particular emphasis on institutional cooperation and communication with the National Prosecutor's Office in relation to audit reports.

The delegation was welcomed by the President of NIK, Marian Banaś.

NIK representatives discussed the issues of reporting possible criminal activity and powers of the Supreme Audit Office of Poland in criminal proceedings. As part of their visit to Poland, the Macedonians visited the headquarters of the National Prosecutor's Office, where the said topics were expanded upon. That visit provided a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the issues addressed at NIK headquarters.
