The Smoleńsk air crash on 10 April 2010 claimed the lives of 96 persons. There were four NIK employees on board: President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński, Władysław Stasiak, Aleksander Szczygło and Sławomir Skrzypek.
The memory of those who died is still alive in the Supreme Audit Office. They are remembered not only as friends or relatives but also as the people who took great efforts to build Poland and devoted the best years of their lives to our country.
This morning - as a sign of utmost respect for the passengers of the President’s airplane flying to Smoleńsk on 10 April 2010 - NIK President Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and Barbara Stasiak, the widow of the late Władysław Stasiak, laid flowers and lit a votive candle at the commemorative plaque dedicated to Lech Kaczyński and the portraits of Władysław Stasiak, Aleksander Szczygło and Sławomir Skrzypek. The Supreme Audit Office will always remember those persons who had devoted their work and their hearts to NIK, as well as other victims of the tragic flight of 10 April 2010.
