The INTOSAI Working Group on the Fight Against Corruption and Money Laundering (WGFACML) was established at the INTOSAI Congress in 2007. The problems of corruption and money laundering are common all over the world, that is why the group gathers Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from all parts of the globe. The group has been working on the development of INTOSAI guidelines aimed at supporting SAIs in combating corruption, financial fraud and money laundering more effectively.
In September 2011 in Prague, members of WGFACML met for the fifth time to summarise the progress of their work. The NIK has been chairing the project dedicated to the development of draft INTOSAI guidelines on enhancing integrity, transparency, accountability and good governance for public assets. Apart from the NIK, representatives of the SAIs of Egypt and Peru also participate in the project, and the SAIs of Chile and Russia are interested in joining it.
One of the priorities of WGFACML is cooperation with international institutions that deal with corruption and money laundering. A representative of the SAI of the USA discussed the group’s plans to collaborate with those institutions with regard to training initiatives. The SAIs of Ecuador, Lesotho, Poland and the USA are to work on developing and preparing trainings dedicated to combating corruption, fraud, mismanagement of public assets, money laundering and terrorism financing.
The meeting in Prague was proceeded by a one-day seminar organised by the SAI of the Czech Republic. Among the speakers of the seminar, there were representatives of several SAIs, the European Commission, the European Anti-Fraud Office and the Transparency International. The seminar was dedicated to, among others, the role of SAIs in disclosing financial losses stemming from corruption, corrective measures undertaken by the European Commission and the anti-corruption regulations in Germany.
The fifth meeting of the INTOSAI Working Group on the Fight Against Corruption and Money Laundering gathered representatives of the SAIs of Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Indonesia, Namibia, Poland, Russia and the USA.
