In January 2025, the Polish SAI and the International Board of Auditors for NATO signed a cooperation agreement. The document, signed by NIK President Marian Banaś and IBAN Chair Radek Visinger, is to strengthen mutual relations and create new areas of collaboration.
The Supreme Audit Office of Poland and the International Board of Auditors for NATO agreed exchange professional experience and good practices related to public external audit, in order to improve audit methods and raise work standards of auditors and other employees.
The agreement also assumes support for the activities of international organisations in the field of external audit within INTOSAI. An important element of the cooperation will also be the organisation of research projects and training programmes for employees, which are to help refine procedures applied by both institutions.
By signing the agreement, the two institutions also declared cooperation in the form of bilateral visits, seminars, conferences and workshops. These meetings will be a great opportunity to exchange experience and expertise by the two institutions.
The agreement signing comes at a special time for Poland when our country is significantly increasing its defence spending, thus responding to growing challenges in the field of international security. Cooperation with NATO's International Board of Auditors is to ensure the highest standards of effectiveness and efficiency in managing public funds earmarked for defence. Through the exchange of experience and joint audits, both institutions will support the effective use of these funds, thus strengthening the defence capabilities of Poland and the entire North Atlantic Alliance.
