Mariusz Haładyj, who was appointed NIK President by parliamentary resolution, is facing ambitious tasks related to effectiveness and independence of NIK as the guardian of public finance.
When presenting his candidacy at the Polish Sejm, Mariusz Haładyj outlined a ten-point vision for development of the Supreme Audit Office of Poland. He did not make any proposals of legal changes but focused on the management priorities and the mode of NIK operation. The concept set out by the new Head of NIK involves, among other things, strengthening the risk-based approach, system audits, focus on efficiency of public policies and the “audit without a thesis” principle. This is a vision of NIK as a modern institution.
A meeting with the NIK Council members opened the NIK President’s welcoming ceremony. Mariusz Haładyj officially welcomed NIK employees and emphasised his readiness to work for a strong and independent audit institution. The presence of the Speaker and other representatives of the Sejm underscored the importance of this event.
