Why is EU membership of benefit to Poland?

Financial crisis has been the main subject of discussions in Europe in the past years. From 2007 to 2013, Poland used PLN 65 billion from the EU budget. In 2012, we received EUR 16 billion. Having deducted the membership fee it was EUR 12 billion (net). As compared with other member states, most funds as part of the cohesion policy (more than EUR 10 billion) were allocated to Poland. Besides, we are one of those countries which received most money as part of the Common Agricultural Policy (nearly EUR 5 billion).

The Supreme Audit Office verified the spending of those funds and confirmed that the EU funds management system in Poland is reliable and effective, despite some irregularities.

NIK has already started an audit of our country’s preparation to the new EU financial perspective. Precise preparation to spend the EU funds effectively is NIK’s priority - it may be the key from the viewpoint of the entire state functioning in the coming years.

Having the findings of the audit from the previous financial perspective and evaluation of preparation for the existing one, NIK wants to present a report in the second half of 2014 to make sure the EU funds use system for the years 2014-2020 is properly developed.
