Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko in his sermons often quoted the words of Paul of Tarsus: Do not let evil overcome you but overcome evil by good. These words gained in significance to become a special message during the tumultuous times of the martial law.
During the times of martial law, Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko celebrated the so-called Masses for the Homeland. The then PRL authorities (People’s Republic of Poland) considered his activity as attacking the communist regime in Poland. That is why, Fr. Popiełuszko soon became the target of the Security Service officials by whom he was murdered in 1984. Read more >>
