It was the first bilateral visit of the Finnish Auditor General in NIK. Both SAIs are currently cooperating within INTOSAI and EUROSAI. Finns actively participate in the EUROSAI IT Working Group chaired by NIK. Furthermore, both offices cooperate within the Contact Committee, EUROSAI Governing Board, INTOSAI Working Group on Key National Indicators, INTOSAI Working Group on Financial Modernization and Regulatory Reform and EUROSAI Working Group on Environmental Audit.
Auditor General Tytti-Yli-Viikari, NIK President Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and NIK top management discussed among others the organisational structure of NIK, its relations with the parliament, as well as the audit of political parties in Poland. The National Audit Office of Finland is highly experienced in this matter, because it regularly examines the financing of both political parties and election campaigns.
NIK President also elaborated on the Contact Committee resolution on support for the SAIs of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. This document concerns the support of heads of EU SAIs for the efforts of the SAIs of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to improve the systems of public accountability and strengthen the position of SAIs in these countries.
The heads of NIK and the National Audit Office of Finland declared to strengthen the bilateral cooperation, which might include possible parallel audits in the future. This matter will be soon discussed further on.
