The enormity of the tragedy that struck Las Vegas - tens killed, hundreds injured, overwhelms with the scale of its barbarity. On this day we assure of our deepest sympathy with the whole American nation, in particular with those who lost their loved ones in the attack. I expressed condolences, support as well as strong objection against such a hideous act of inhumanity to the head of the American Government Accountability Office on behalf of myself and all NIK employees - said the President of NIK, Krzysztof Kwiatkowski.
The President of NIK the American Comptroller General closely cooperate, primarily in the Governing Board of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions INTOSAI. NIK and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) jointly contribute to the official magazine of the Organisation, INTOSAI Journal, are active in the Steering Committee of the INTOSAI Professional Standards Committee (PSC) and INTOSAI Internal Control Standards Subcommittee, chaired by NIK. A representative of GAO has always been an active member of the INTOSAI international team for the review of the INTOSAI Code of Ethics.
NIK and GAO cooperate in many INTOSAI Working Groups - among others the groups
for the Fight Against Corruption and Money Laundering, IT Audit and Programme Evaluation. The cooperation of the Polish NIK and American GAO is an example
of an excellent collaboration of both organisations for other audit institutions because
of their similar constitutional position (NIK by the Sejm (lower house of the Polish parliament) and GAO by the Congress), despite being geographically distant.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for the Congress. It is often referred to as the congressional supervision or the congressional watchdog.
