Friend of Poland Awarded by the President of the Country

Chairman of the State Supreme Audit of the Republic of Albania Bujar Leskaj can be undoubtedly called a friend of Poland and a promoter of the Polish culture. In the past, when he held the office of the Minister of Culture of Albania, Bujar Leskaj actively promoted the Polish culture in his country, and he has been continuing to do so nowadays as Head of the Albanian Supreme Audit Institution. Chairman Leskaj supports such initiatives as, among many, recitations of Polish poems, displays of Polish paintings, concerts of Polish classical music, as well as publications about Polish culture, history and traditions in the Albanian press.

It was thanks to the efforts of Chairman Bujar Leskaj that the publication about  the most important Polish symbols has been translated into Albanian. The Polish Symbols is the first comprehensive publication of the kind which presents Polish history and symbols. It describes a hundred of the most important places, events and achievements as a result of which significant changes occurred in Poland, Europe and in the whole world. The publication depicts a hundred of Polish icons: from the Polish anthem and emblem, through the battle of Grunwald, the Solidarność movement and Lech Wałęsa, Pope John Paul II, Chopin, the Wawel Castle and Warsaw - the capital of Poland, to Polish monuments and cuisine.

During the cooperation between NIK and the State Supreme Audit of Albania, NIK organised several seminars for Albanian auditors, dedicated to, for instance, fight against corruption, performance auditing, financial audits, audits of public procurement and audits of European funds. This added to the exchange of experience between the two institutions and further developed the cooperation that they have in these areas.

Chairman Leskaj also invites representatives from NIK to deliver presentations during annual scientific conferences dedicated to state auditing in Albania, and to co-chair these conferences. He actively supported the Polish offer for the twinning project for the SAI of Albania that is also an opportunity to share Polish audit methodology solutions. The project has been launched in March 2016.

During his visit to Poland, Chairman Leskaj will also travel to Wrocław - European Capital of Culture 2016, where he will have a meeting at the NIK Regional Branch in Wrocław.
