NIK as auditor of the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe is an international organisation promoting co-operation among  European countries in the areas of legal standards, human rights, democratic development, the rule of law and cultural co-operation. It was founded in 1949 and includes 47 member states.

NIK will check how the Council of Europe spends money intended for its operation. The Polish SAI will be submitting audit results to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

For NIK engagement in such audits is part of Poland’s membership commitment to the international audit society and those organisations themselves. Being a member of an international organisation and contributing to the fulfilment of its objectives requires to be involved in all aspects of the organisation’s functioning, also in external audit activities for them.

In 2012, NIK was also appointed external auditor of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN).
