NIK audits EU Institute for Security Studies

The auditors from the Supreme Audit Institutions of Poland and Italy conducted an annual audit of the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) and its Pension Fund. The audit was carried out in compliance with the International Auditing Standards of INTOSAI.

The auditors stated that the financial report of the EUISS depicts the Institute’s condition in a reliable and transparent way and that it does not contain significant errors. Nevertheless, the audit revealed a range of irregularities, such as the absence of anti-corruption policy, insufficient data protection, no inventory of fixed assets, lack of management control and failure to use the universal accounting methodology.

Following an in-depth analysis of the documentation delivered by the Polish-Italian team, the auditors addressed a number of recommendations to the Institute which has already started to implement them.
