NIK on geriatric care

Poland lacks medical care system for the elderly. There are too few geriatricians, specialist outpatient clinics and hospital departments. The key barrier is the method of settling medical services by NFZ which assumes financing one disease, although elderly people usually suffer from several ailments at the same time. Interestingly enough, elderly patients run by a geriatrician function better and their treatment is cheaper.
