NIK has noted that the number of rail accidents has fallen in the past years and the percentage of rail infrastructure in good technical condition has increased.
The most frequent cause of rail accidents was the poor condition of rails, junctions and rail traffic control devices. The condition of rail infrastructure was as follows: only 43 percent - good, 30 percent - sufficient, 23 - unsatisfactory and 4 percent - bad.
