”There are a lot of similarities between our two countries so we can share experiences in solving similar problems” - underlined the Auditor General of Lithuania Giedrė Švedienė, pointing out that Polish and Lithuanian auditors should learn methodology and the best auditing practices from one another.

The main reason why the Polish delegation visited Lithuania was the meeting of the INTOSAI Sub-Committee on Internal Control Standards. NIK has been its chair since 2010. ”Internal control is an inseparable element of management of each organisation” - said President Kwiatkowski, at the same time thanking the Supreme Audit Institution of Lithuania for the meeting arrangement.

The importance of internal control and Sub-Committee plans were discussed for two days (26-27 May). The invited guests included representatives of the Ministries of Finance of Poland and Lithuania from 12 SAIs and several partner organisations as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

At the end of the visit, President Krzysztof Kwiatkowski together with Jacek Jezierski and Ambassador of Poland Jarosław Czubiński laid flowers at Antakalnis cemetery at the monument of victims of the attack of the Soviet army on the television tower on 13 January 1990.
