During the INTOSAI Congress which started on Tuesday (22 October), public auditors from all over the world were debating on how their audits may contribute to a better state management as well as to the safety and balance in the financial policies of all countries.
The first topic was the Congress’ answer to changes that are currently going on in the economy and economics. According to the new INTOSAI strategy for 2011-2016, the greatest stress should be placed on the promotion of transparency, accountability, good governance and fight against corruption.
The second topic of the meeting was related to joint efforts of all Supreme Audit Institutions in terms of sustainable development. The care about economic growth and technology development should go together with sensitive social policy, efficient health care and well-organised education. Each of those issues is of interest to public auditors.
The 21st Congress was special for NIK. In the course of the meeting the Polish SAI will be officially appointed as a member of the Governing Board, thus replacing Great Britain. For Polish people this is a distinction and opportunity. Participating in the works of the INTOSAI Governing Board from 2013 to 2019, NIK wants to use its experience to help INTOSAI develop solutions to streamline the state audit functioning.
