The kick-off conference was attended by the heads of the three SAIs involved: Bujar Leskaj, Chairman of the Albanian Supreme Audit Office (KLSH), Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, NIK President and Ivan Klesič, Auditor General of Croatia. The Head of the EU Delegation in Albania Romana Vlahutin in her address stressed the significance of external auditing for the development of a civil socjety and rule of law in Albania.
The project is divided into 3 components: the first one refers to the legal framework of the Albanian SAI (KLSH), the second one to the methodology of public sector auditing and the third one focuses on strengthening institutional capacity of KLSH. They cover almost all aspects of the activity of the SAI. Together with our colleagues from Albania and Croatia NIK will be working on supporting KLSH in its development as an independent and effective auditor of public funds and adopting internationally recognized auditing and management standards, as well as EU best practices.
On this occasion Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, NIK President paid also a bilateral visit to the Supreme Audit Office of Albania. With Mr Leskaj, Chairman of the KLSH they discussed the bilateral agenda of cooperation between NIK and KLSH. President Kwiatkowski met the President of the Republic Bujar Nishani, the Chairman of the Parliament Ilir Meta, President of the Constitutional Court of Albania Bashkim Dedja, Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Finance and Economy Erion Braçe and Minister of Justice Ylli Manjani.
In his discussions with high state officials of Albania President Kwiatkowski stressed the significance of an indpendent, apolitical and professional supreme audit office in the democratic state. He reported on the long-term friendly and effective cooperation between NIK and KLSH.
On the last day of his visit President Kwiatkowski was awarded by President Nishani the decoration for special civil merits.
