Visit of the Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board of Indonesia

The Indonesian delegation was accompanied by the Ambassador of their country to Poland, Peter F. Gontha. The visit started with the meeting with Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, President of NIK and other members of NIK top management. Then, experts from both institutions participated in detailed discussions on ethics in audit, relations with the media and the fight against corruption and money laundering.

The colleagues from Indonesia are very much interested in co-ordinated audits. They discussed it during one of the discussion panels, devoted to this topic. Both institutions are experienced in this form of audit activity. They are members of the INTOSAI (International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions) Subcommittee of Co-operative Audits, led by Slovakia.

The guests spoke about their audits on forest and illegal fishing. They conducted these audits together with the SAI of Malaysia while, only in 2014, NIK was engaged in eight co-ordinated audits e.g. Polish-Slovak and Polish-Czech audits of cross-border co-operation programmes, Polish-Slovak audit on safety in the mountains as well as multinational audits of biofuels, national parks, flood prevention.

The co-operation between both institutions was initiated in 2007 with a visit to NIK by a Vice-President of the BPK. Next year, the institutions signed a memorandum of understanding regulating the exchange of knowledge and experience. In 2010, a bilateral seminar was held in Poland, which was relating to financial audit in the public sector. Two years later the institutions organised a seminar in Jakarta devoted to the fight against corruption and communication policy.

Between 2013 and 2014 NIK supported its Indonesian colleagues within so called ”peer review”. On  request of the Indonesian Parliament, NIK auditors examined the management of the BPK, effectiveness of its audits and implementation of international standards. During his visit to Jakarta,  Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, President of NIK, handed over the final report to the Indonesian auditors. In 2015, Sapto Amal Damandari, Vice-President of the BPK, presented in Warsaw the process of introduction of recommendations included in this report.
